Phones with Intel Atom Airmont (on 14nm) in 2014
Intel accelerates its roadmap in an attempt to be noticed and, in the field of Smartphones and tablets. By 2014, Intel plans to deliver Atom processors in 14-nm process technology.
Processors miniature technologies appear to be “fashionable” when we talk about Intel. It is interesting to see if Smartphones will migrate to the processors, because the market often see the top phones with ARM processors, and Intel makes such quality products, competition may not only be welcome.
The annual investor meeting, Intel said that they have revised roadmap processors; they found him to be “inappropriate” given the current competitive landscape. As a result, the company will provide 22 nm processors called Atom Silvermont SoC (System on a Chip) in 2013 and 14 nm processors Airmont Atom SoC in 2014. So, the 22 nm processors named Ivy Bridge will be on the market on 2011-2012 and the 14-nm chips seem to have been moved in 2014, although their initial lunch was expected in 2013.
It is still unclear in one thing: that when Intel will provide a competitive platform for integration into its processors for Smartphone. The company stressed that future 32-nm Medfield chip will address one of the weaknesses of previous Atom chips – energy consumption is even demonstrated this processor Smartphones.
