Configure POP3 & SMTP server settings for Windows Live Hotmail

Few weeks back Hotmail finally allowed its free users to use POP3 technology. Though it is limited to few countries(United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, France, Japan, Spain, Germany, Italy & Holland), but they have plan to extend it to all users around the world towards the end of 2009. Recent failure against competitors specially gmail forced Hotmail to allow this facility for free users. Previously only premium users of Hotmail Plus were able to use POP3. Here are the POP3 and SMTP server settings for your Hotmail account:

POP server: pop3.live.com (Port 995)
POP SSL required? Yes
User name: Your Windows Live ID, for example yourname@hotmail.com
Password: The password you usually use to sign in to Hotmail or Windows Live
SMTP server: smtp.live.comĀ (Port 25)
Authentication required? Yes (this matches your POP username and password)
TLS/SSL required? Yes

Good News , Mostly people like hotmail as compared to gmail while using MSN messenger

Dear Ahsan! Pop mail is not available for free Yahoo users. You need to purchase Yahoo Mail Plus for this. Hopeyfully in future they’ll free this services.

I had tried to configure My Live id on Outlook but its unable to send mails.smtp didn’t work.kindly suggest something

Not every ISP allow to use any SMTP server. Ask your ISP/DSL provider you with correct SMTP server & whether they support Live SMTP servers. It is not necessary to send emails using SMTP server provided by the email provider, it can be any server able to send emails.
